Join Floaty on an Ocean adventure!
Floaty is the mascot and companion of the “Exploration Track” of adopt a float. Once registered, primary and secondary school teachers are invited to follow Floaty’s scientific journey and share its discoveries and the data it collects along the way with their students.
Each year, Floaty explores a different ocean basin and takes on a new scientific mission. Its destination, the scientific questions it helps explore, and the challenges it encounters therefore change from one year to the next.
Temperature, salinity, ocean circulation, climate, environmental change… With Floaty, students discover the Ocean through real scientific observations and follow an ongoing research mission as it unfolds.
Floaty’s 2027 mission
This year, Floaty is exploring the Thermal Dome off the coast of Central America, a dynamic ocean region influenced by phenomena such as El Niño and La Niña.
Rich in nutrients and highly productive, this region is home to an exceptional marine ecosystem and important fisheries that contribute to the livelihoods of coastal communities.
What makes this region so special?
Floaty’s journey invites us to discover the ecological and biological importance of the Thermal Dome and explore how scientific knowledge, research and ocean observations can contribute to the sustainable governance and protection of the high seas.
